My Angel, Joe

On December 8, 2010 a patient I took care of 32 years ago passed away. He became a quadriplegic at the age of 21. He was diving in a reservoir from his boat and for some unknown reason he was left paralyzed. He touched my heart by his determination to live in the moment and to make the most of his life from a wheelchair. His life was hard and difficult for obvious reasons but he was such an inspiration to all who knew him or came to know him. His family gave him support emotionally, physically, and spirituality. I know he felt lucky in all aspects of his life. Whenever I feel downhearted I think of Joe and how he lived with such a severe disability and I am strengthened and renewed. Life can certainly be difficult and challenging.

14 and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.

Heavenly Father, I feel very fortunate in my life having my abilities to enjoy my life and all that you have given me. Thank you for the life lessons you have provided and the knowledge that blessings flow all around us every day. Keep me humble in your love which I don’t deserve but am given each day.
