Multiplying !

As we begin preparation for celebration of stewardship at the end of this month, I reflect upon what it means to be a steward. A steward is one who manages the possessions of another.

The fundamental principle of biblical stewardship: God owns everything, we are simply managers or administrators acting on his behalf. We are all stewards of the resources, abilities and opportunities that God has entrusted to our care, and one day each one of us will be called to give an account for how we have managed what the Master has given us. I’m only a steward, not an owner. What’s exceptional to me is the amazing ‘reach’ that God’s Grace has… it knows no boundaries – I contribute what I can manage, but like the loaves and fishes, God multiplies it to go far beyond my reach.

Luke 9: 16-17  Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the people. And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full.

There is a great song by a Christian rock band entitled “Multiplied” which includes the lyrics:

May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied
