More Useful

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

”Jesus sat down opposite the (temple) treasury and watched as people put money in ..”…(Mark 12:41 ). He made several observations as he watched the process take place. One observation was that rich people put in large sums of money. The other thing Jesus noted was that a poor widow came through the line and put in a penny or so which was all she had. Jesus than motioned for all his disciples to come over and he told them that the “…poor widow put in more than all the rest."(Mark 12:43)

It was not Jesus' intent to urge all the disciples to look at what was going on as means to help God get more things. God can play with the stars at night if God needed more things. Jesus urged all of his followers to heed this observation because those whom Jesus loved, you and me, need the joy and spiritual presence that generosity helps contribute to.

Father Richard Rohr says that ”God loves everybody, but some are more useful than others.” That is a profound quote. Regardless of your level of generosity, Jesus loves you. However, those who immerse themselves deeply into the generous nature of the Widow, are greater partners with Jesus in the kingdom of God.

May you pray each day to grow deeper in your understanding that all you have is from God, and that Jesus wants you to partner with God in the redemption of the world. For those who are most useful to God receive the highest levels of joy.

See you on Sunday.

Still in one peace,
