Monsters and Demons

Matthew 12:22-28

Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub,[d]the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

It is a joy to be a part of the team of people who pray. We get to pray for healing and wholeness for others. We lift up those who need comfort and wisdom. Sunday we were joined by Peter “Rocky” a missionary from South Africa. We got to bless Matt and Liz as they leave our midst to go to Germany to be God’s light in the world. Peter also helped us pray for healing, healing for my Randy.

I have participated in many healing prayers for people over the years. Peter added a new dimension that I had not thought of. He cast out demons. As Peter was listing the demons he was banishing to the dry place, four stuck out in my mind.

Fear, Doubt, Anxiety & Negativity…Hmmm. Have you ever thought of the emotional challenges these four bring to our lives as demons? I don’t know about you but the very word demons brings to mind scary monster pictures, not Fear, Doubt, Anxiety & Negativity.

Fear is a monster though. It creeps into our bedroom at night and keeps us from letting ourselves rest in God’s care. It nags at us all day long until we begin to doubt in God’s blessings. We begin to doubt that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image. Panic and anxiety take control of our minds and we lose faith in ourselves and our creator. Negativity sees its opportunity to move in and control our thoughts and our words. Negativity closes the door to healing and hope.

Peter, “Rocky” says we need to pray daily to keep these demons in the “Dry” place. Will you join me in praying that these demons are banished from our lives once and for all!

Abba, You are our hope, our redeemer, our counselor, our mighty God! No weapon, no demon could ever win against the power of your love. Who could possibly be against us when you are for us. Abba give us the strength to hold the demons of Fear, Doubt, Anxiety and Negativity in the dry place, the place where they will wither and die, leaving only room in our lives for your blessings of Courage, Trust, Peace & Joy!

Mark 1:32-34... That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
