Moments That Catch Our Attention

Have you heard from God lately? God speaks to us all the time, but I fear I rarely stop and notice. It’s those moments when God breaks through our walls, our busyness, our fears and gets us to take a moment and consider what God is up to in our lives and in the world.

Like the near-miss car accident. The pink and orange sunrise. A friend needing a helping hand. A neighbor reaching out to make a connection.

We call these Kairos Moments. God getting our attention.

Our scripture text for this 2nd Sunday in Advent is from Mark 1:1-8 and talks about John the Baptism. Jesus’ cousin who is getting people’s attentions and helping them prepare for Jesus. John was telling the people of his day and is telling us today – getting ready: God wants to get your attention.

When God does get our attention, it’s usually to help us turn around and turn toward God. A chance to learn, to be transformed, renewed and to believe in God’s mercy and grace. Good News!

Tomorrow we gather at 9 and 10:30 am to stop and notice, to prepare ourselves to open up to what God might be saying. It’s pretty cool. It’s a chance for us to hear John’s words about this coming Christmas:
The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I’m a mere stagehand, will change your life. Mark 1:7 Msg

Grace and peace,
