Moments Remembered

Almost three years ago this month, my July devotion for 2014 reflected on the following quote a friend shared with me:

"We do not remember days, we remember moments." Cesare Pavese

Do you ever feel like life is moving faster than you are? Three years ago, life was busy with a trip to Booneville, Mississippi, work and a move. Today, life is busy with work, an upcoming move and in just a few short weeks, a trip to Kansas City, Missouri for another mission trip with some of GGCC’s youth. Seems like life continues to stay busy. Life goes on whether we are ready for it or not.

In addition to remembering moments, I have recently been reminded of the following quote by Maya Angelou:

“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Many times we are busy with life and we forget to stop and take a moment. I am extremely appreciative and blessed by a moment that at the time I didn’t realize just how important it would become. I couldn’t tell you when but I can still remember where. I couldn’t tell you everything that was talked about but I know that names were exchanged. Someone in my life, whom I didn’t know very well, took the time in this busy world to learn my name.

To me, learning someone’s name helps to create a personal connection. Now, it is not always possible to learn the name of everyone we encounter on a daily basis. However, just exchanging a hello or asking someone how their day is can make all the difference in the world.

I would encourage you to stop and take a moment. Take a look around and see what God has to offer. Stop and take a moment to say hello or to learn someone’s name. It can make a person feel special, or important, or better yet, visible in a busy and sometimes invisible world.

Dear God, Thank you for our angels, both those that walk among us and those who look out for us from above. Please help us to remember to take a moment and to know that sometimes even the smallest of gestures can make all the difference in the world. Amen.
