Mixed bag

So, what do you think about 2017? Good or bad? Most likely, it’s probably like most years: a mixed bag. Bad things happened. We lost loved ones. Politically it seems things are a mess. War looms on the horizon. Not everyone has a job or good health.

But, good things happened too. GGCC had 8 baptisms. We gathered for worship 107 times (counting tomorrow.) We had at least 13 potluck meals and one catered meal. We hosted or attended 8 concerts. There were men’s softball games and coed kickball games. We served to clean up neighborhoods and outdoor yard projects at three Extreme Community Makeovers. We gave away dozens of gift cards as Bingo prizes at The Gathering Place. We attended fundraisers for our partners, gathered for Bible study and small group gatherings. We prayed and had prayers answered.

And, then there’s our children’s ministry! We’ve got kids paired with mentors in our congregation and we mentored or tutored kids at Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives and Whiz Kids. We welcomed young people from Mississippi that had never flown before or been to Colorado. We made sure kids at Paris Elementary had backpacks and school supplies. Kids and their families had Thanksgiving feasts with the baskets we were able to give. We gifted kids living in poverty in Nicaragua with food and Christmas gifts. We adopted families in inner city Denver who might not have had much of a Christmas. Kids are welcomed in the nursery and in Children’s Church each Sunday.

So sure, 2017 was a mixed bag of ups and downs, highs and lows. In fact, I’d venture to say it was a pretty typical year. But one thing we do know: God showed up and showed off. Watch the GGCC 2017 Year in Review:

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 10:00 only! Join us to thank and praise God for being with us all through 2017. And to thank and praise God for what will come our way in 2018. It won’t be the same without you.

Grace be with you,

Vikki
