Men's Retreat Recap

The men's retreat began right after church on June 7, departing for Kansas. Yes, 15 guys from Colorado chose to vacation in Kansas.

The 6 hour drive seemed to fly past as we enjoyed the relaxing conversation cruising down a 2-lane highway for the last 2 hours. When we arrived, our host, Big Don, had a smoker full of meat prepared for us, and we settled in with a wonderful meal.

At 8am the next morning, 15 of us filled two large pontoon boats for 5 hours of fishing. We caught walleye, white bass, and catfish that morning. In the late afternoon we went out again until sunset and caught numerous white bass, crappie and some catfish. A stop at the fish cleaning station after each excursion showed us we had more than enough for a fish fry.

Tuesday greeted us with thunderstorms so we decided to stay in that morning and have our bible study. The theme was "Was Jesus a regular guy?" and we broke into small groups to find examples in the bible. Then we discussed "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people"-- what it means to follow Jesus and the two simple words, "follow me."  We talked about how Jesus makes us be evangelists when we follow Him because our actions draw others to him through us. For lunch we had our fish fry!We decided to pass on fishing that day due to the weather, and instead opted for a rousing mud volleyball game.

That night as we reflected on the trip we once again asked "Why Kansas?" We agreed that our hosts made the trip what it is - relaxing, fun, and spiritual- and we would return.
