Mature Christian?

Hebrews 6:1-20

Hebrews 6:1-3 “ Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.  And God permitting, we will do so.”

Am I a mature Christian? What do I consider a mature Christian? The author of Hebrews says in Hebrews 5:13-14 “ Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 1But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

Matthew 22:34-38 “ Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Sometimes, or even maybe often…

As a follower of Jesus…

When I think I am a mature follower of Jesus…

I think I need to instruct, maybe to let my wife know when she is not doing the right thing, or when my son is not listening, or when my daughter is making a bad decision, or when…

It “really” isn’t about making sure that we follow the law, it isn’t even about being right or wrong, it is about love…

Maturity is about loving those that love you,
Maturity is about loving those that are scheming against you,
Maturity is about loving those that are actually attacking you,
Maturity is knowing that your father in heaven is with you now, willing to carry your cross, willing to take on every burden you have so you can love. AMEN!

Precious Father, Loving God, Holy Spirit help me to let go. Let go of my worries, let go of my need to control, let go of my needing to follow the law. Help me to love, love myself, love my family, love my friends, love my enemies, love those that are soooo hard to love. AMEN!
