Making Space

It’s Lent. The season before Easter for spiritual renewal; for engaging spiritual practices like fasting, prayer and charity; for walking with Jesus to the cross. We observe Lent so that when Easter arrives, it really feels like Good News and that resurrection in our own lives is possible.

This past week at our Ash Wednesday service, we considered what we need to LET GO of so that we might MAKE SPACE. If you didn’t have a chance to engage this exercise, you can do it now.

  • What do you need to LET GO of during the season of Lent to strengthen your relationship with God and others?
  • How will letting go MAKE SPACE for you to do this?

Here are some of the responses from Wednesday evening.

Stop my anger  * Just worries in general…let them be gone…  *  Seeking justice  *  Busy-ness, Wasting time…Fill these times with God  *  Thinking of future & past  *  Worrying about what will happen in the future  *  My insecurities…  *  Pride  *  Pain, anger, resentment  * Listening to the radio in the car  *  Worry  *  Judgmental attitudes  *  Fear, anger, apprehension  *  Of money  *  Being right  *  Playing games on phone

Listening  * Embracing silence in the car  *  Love, acceptance  *  Reading  *  Prayer and reading the Bible  *  Forgiveness  *  Help me with my mom  *  More love  *  Giving  *  Intentional prayer & reflection  *  Love others  *  The present  *  More prayer time  *  Embrace more mercy  *  My confidence…  *  Compassion  *  Being in the moment

I hope this list will prompt you to come up with several ways to Make Space this Lent.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 am as we gather to worship, praise and thank God. The group who went to Memphis/Booneville last week will share about their experience.

Grace be with you,
