Lukewarm?

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“I know you well—you are neither hot nor cold ; I wish you were one or the other! But since you are merely lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16)

Dr. Leonard Sweet taught me to write this verse on an airplane vomit bag and use it as a Bible bookmark. This helps me to remember that I am created to take a stand for Christ in the world.

The position of our Lord is “hot or cold,” but Luke warmness? Never! Sloth (reluctance to work or make an effort; laziness) is being less than God meant or intends for us to be. The Proverbs tell the story of a slothful person:

“I passed by the field of a slothful person and lo, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles and its stone wall was broken down.” (Proverbs 24:30,31)

Sloth is the half-hearted response, the response that does not grasp the moment or the opportunity.

I give thanks that Terry Luce, Cleo Frye, Steve Cruickshank, Trace Tyler, Donna Rose and Bill Challis each engaged the opportunity to go to Booneville, Mississippi with me last weekend. Together we had fellowship on Beale Street, in Memphis. We experienced the National Civil Rights Museum. We toured Booneville, Mississippi and  worshiped with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Hopewell Baptist Church. There were few, if any, slothful moments.

On Sunday, the group who went to Mississippi will lead worship. Keep them in your prayers. Come with open hearts ready to share in the gift of transformation that Jesus desires for our lives.

*Pastor Gabe Jolly of Hopewell Baptist will be our guest preacher on April 30th. The plan is that a group from that congregation will be accompanying him on the trip.*

Prayers: For thanksgiving that Pastor Milt Jensen had a successful hip replacement surgery and is in recovery; for local and global leadership; for all who are in need of healing or who mourn.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
