1 Corinthians 13:4-8; 13 New International Version (NIV)
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Love is powerful … in a word ... in a touch … in our actions … love is unconditional. Several weeks ago I had an opportunity to participate in the Dia de Luz // Day of Light Celebration thru Love Light and Melody in Managua, Nicaragua. There is something magical about that place … love flows freely regardless of age … or gender … or language … somehow, a gesture and a smile is all you need.

Love can be found everywhere … including Nueva Vida, a trash dump. We spent a bit of time in the dump playing with the kids ~ we had kites, face paint, music, soccer balls, stickers … but more than that, we had laughter and fun … smiles and hugs … love was in the air.

Nueva Vida is where I met Carolina. Carolina had the biggest smile and most amazing heart. Several of us were sharing stickers with the kids … With the biggest smile possible, Carolina took them from me and placed one on my arm. She was beaming ear to ear. She then placed the same sticker on the person next to me proudly proclaiming “dos amigos” … she then stuck the same on another again proudly proclaiming “tres amigos” … she called us friends … her friends … and we had only know each other for a few minutes. Carolina in that instant reminded me that as God’s children, we are loved … we are family … we are all God’s family regardless of who we are and where we are from.

The stickers she chose that day are now a part of my Bible … as you can see, they are hearts … a symbol of love … and my favorite, love with wings …

My trip to Nicaragua brought me many gifts and “aha moments” … I look forward to my return one day … in the meantime, I will remember the gifts of being a child in the Kingdom of God and God’s unconditional love. May I be able to take that feeling of love and share it with others.

I think the words from this childhood song says it best … May you be loved to be a love to those you meet …

"Love, love, love … That's what it's all about … 'Cause God loves us we love each other
Mother, Father, Sister, Brother … Everybody sing and shout! 'Cause that's what it's all about.
It's about love, love, love." (Love, Love, Love … That’s What It’s All about by Herbert Brokering)

Dear God, Thank you, thank you, thank you. For the gifts of unconditional love … for the beautiful hearts of children and for all those who come into our lives. May we remember what it’s like to feel your unconditional love and share it with others. In your name we pray, Amen.
