Acts 1:1-26

Acts 1:11 “Men of Galilee, Why do you stand here looking into the sky?”

Looking into the sky, waiting, am I looking into the sky because I worry about the future?

The disciples had just seen Jesus “taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.” Like Elisha watched Elijah taken up in a whirlwind, except there weren’t any chariots or horses of fire.

Were the disciples worried or excited? Was Jesus going up to prepare a house with many rooms or was he…gone.

Worry and fear are real, but so are love, compassion, and caring. If you are hurt and feel you can’t go on, if you have lost something precious and don’t see how to continue, if your dreams have been shattered. Know that Jesus is with you! And like Elisha will help you pick up your cloak and go on... and like the disciples will help you get home and carry on. Jesus is love! In allowing yourself to love in times of worry and fear you are allowing Jesus to heal and sooth you. You are allowing yourself to experience the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth.

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit, in the depths of our worry, fear, guilt, hate, and anger, help us to be open to love, love from ourselves, love from others, love from our Creator, LORD, and Savior, Jesus the Christ! AMEN!
