Living Life Fully

There’s a lot of chattering that goes on around us and within us. Life is messy and we can’t avoid the messiness if we are going to live in God’s presence. Our image of God is important. If we see God as Love, we have hope in the messiness of life. We can even find joy, when we’re willing to shake things up a bit.

I’m old enough to realize that often God leads us to new people and places to teach us about being humble and to teach us about trust. He has been showing up, shaking things up, for 60 some years now. He has brought many people into my life who have taught me about prayer. Just living life fully is an exercise in prayer. We hear and see unthinkable suffering and chaos in the news every day. Sometimes sitting quietly with the chaos, pausing to rest and listen, is when God shows up. Sometimes he convicts my thoughts and heart but, always with a gentle reminder of his love and grace. We are on the move with prayer, when we find God in the human lives around us, when we choose to love our neighbor even when he seems unlovable. When we care for an elderly parent, sister or spouse. When we help a child. When we welcome a stranger into our home and share our stories and gifts. Visiting, touching, choosing, listening, telling, sharing is all prayer on the move. How many verbs can you think of for prayer?

Father God, You are always with us in Love and Grace beyond anything we can imagine. Through Jesus, you call us to come closer to your heart. Through your Spirit, you are willing to show us how. Thank you, for caring for us so deeply and for your faithful help and guidance.
