Do you write letters? I can honestly say, no, I haven’t written a letter in a long time. I send notes. But that’s not really a letter. But I can recall writing letters: love letters, letters to my grandparents, letters home. I tried to be better about writing letters a few years ago, but it’s hard to write a full letter. I never know what to say.

I rarely receive a letter. I’m not sure Christmas card letters count since they are written to a large group of folks and not to just an individual. Businesses write letters. Sometimes I get an email that is letter-ish from a friend or relative. But it seems we forego letters and let our photos and quips on social media do the talking.

However, we do get letters all the time if only we notice. From God. That sunset with the pink-orange-gold clouds? Letter from God. That snow-covered mountain shining against a deep blue sky? Letter from God. That perfect apple you found at the grocery store? Letter from God. That cold drink of water that refreshed and renewed you physically? Letter from God. That person who shared a random act of kindness by letting you go first? Letter from God.

Jesus. Letter from God.

May we remember this Advent, that God is writing us a letter full of hope to come to our longing. May we accept the letters God sends to us daily by pausing for a moment to acknowledge them, read them and listen to them.

One of the letters God writes to us is when we gather face to face for worship, praise, thanksgiving and reflection. We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 am!

Grace be with you,
