Less of Me

Sometimes I get in the way. I get in the way of things getting done. I get in the way of other people’s feelings. I get in the way of God doing God’s work in the world.

-I get in the way by being prideful, arrogant and thinking I know better than anyone – even God.

- I get in the way by not listening, not being willing to take a chance and not going out of my comfort zone.

- I get in the way when I refuse to learn new things, meet new people or change the way I think.

So, every now and then I just have to get out of my way. This week, I’m on a mission trip with 8 youth and 2 adults. This is definitely an opportunity to get out of the way!
We are in a strange city: Kansas City
We are sleeping on the floor of a church, wall to wall sleeping bags and air mattresses.
We are living and serving with a group of about 65 youth and adults.
There are 4 young adults who are planning, coordinating and leading everything we do.
We are following a grueling schedule jam-packed from 7 am – 11 pm.
We are meeting new people and doing things we hadn’t even considered an option.

And, it’s GREAT! By getting me out of the way, Jesus is able to get in my way and help me learn humility, practice risk-taking, and grow my relationship with him by growing it with others. My treasure really isn’t what I like to think it is – it’s moving closer to God by allowing God to get in my way.

This group of missionaries looks forward to sharing our stories, showing our pictures and worshiping with you this Sunday. See you then!
