Lenten Sacrifice

Lent is a time to focus on the sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf.  Growing up Catholic, we were encouraged to give up something, make a sacrifice, for Lent.

This past Sunday in church, Pastor Dave gave each of the young people in attendance a ten dollar bill, exhorting them to use it to bless someone.  I began to think about what I could do to be a blessing to another person. I realized then that I wanted to explore a different way of preparing my heart for Easter.  Instead of "giving something up," I'd like to "be a blessing" for Lent;  speak a kind word, perform a helpful act or say a prayer on someone's behalf.

Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
