Leave It Behind

As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison.   ~Nelson Mandela

I've read this quote many times, and it always makes me stop and think...Maybe it's absurd to compare the wrongs or injustices that have been part of my simple life to that of a man who was unjustly imprisoned for 27 years. The bigger picture for me, and for you too is that, as Christians we are called to forgive, as God forgives us. When we "walk out the door" of our resentments, our perceived injustices and hurts, our personal betrayals and hurt feelings, how easy is it for us to walk into the freedom that forgiveness brings? If we continue to harbor bitterness and hatred, have we truly forgiven?

What do you need to leave behind in order to break free from the prison you're in? Whom or what do you need to forgive? Sometimes it's even ourselves that need the forgiveness.

Acts 26:18 '...to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God's people, who are set apart by faith in me.'
