Jesus is Bigger Than the Super Bowl

When the flurry of posts began after both the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks won their divisional playoff games, I saw a post that stood out called, “Jesus is bigger than the Super Bowl.” Curious, I clicked the link to discover that several Seattle players were recorded reflecting on the depth of their faith. That, players can win or lose a championship game, and Christ is still by their side, in all of the highs and the lows.

How many times do we consider the activities (the ups and the downs) in our own lives as big? Huge? Our experiences sometimes outweigh our faith and our trust in Jesus. Even John Lennon predicted that with Christianity’s decline, the Beatles would be more popular than Jesus.

1 Peter 3:15:
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

I’ll leave you with a few quotes from the video. “Jesus is love,” says quarterback Russell Wilson in the interview. “At the end of the day we are all looking for somebody to comfort us, somebody to be there for us at all times.” “Jesus is better than anything we could ever hope for, even better than the Super Bowl, better than an NFL career,” said pass defense coach Rocky Leto to interviewer Pastor Mark Driscoll of the Mars Hill Church.
