It's The Little Things

I once spoke to my friend, an old squirrel, about the
Sacraments—
he got so excited
and ran into a hollow in his tree and came
back holding some acorns, an owl feather,
and a ribbon he had found.
And I just smiled and said, “Yes, dear,
you understand:
everything imparts
His grace.

St. Francis of Assisi, Adapted by Daniel Ladinsky in Love Poems From God

“In Christian vocabulary, Sacrament means “a sign of grace.”
We try to be present in our surroundings. We try to live in the moment when spending time with others. The truth is, we are easily distracted. Work can become a distraction, although we are all called to contribute something for the greater good. Television, radio, the internet, constantly hit us with the latest on just about everything. Negative news continues to come out of most countries around the world. Receiving our daily dose of shock from the media, seems to be something we crave. Example, the life and antics of the famous few. Popularity, plays on fear, drives the media and what they report, right? Too much input, we rush right by and miss so much of the good stuff.

There is that small voice inside, reminding me what my heart really craves. To stop running and allow myself to be caught, to stop pretending and allow myself to be known, to stop rushing and allow myself to slow down, to stop hiding and allow myself to be loved. To share with God his intimate love firsthand. “I have called you by name, from the very beginning. You are mine and I am yours.” To witness all the little miracles he puts in my path every day. A good cup of coffee, children laughing, the imperfections, the possibilities, because God can make beautiful things out of everything. To love and appreciate his creation, my family, my friends, my home, my health, His awesome grace that surrounds me.

Abba God,
So often I forget to worship you in the small, seemingly insignificant times and places. Help me to see the miracles that I walk by each day. Your beauty in the world and in the people along my path. Help me to see possibilities, where I might be a channel for your grace. Keep the eyes of my spirit open to You, as I go about the occupation of being Your child today.
Amen
