It's Simple

Philippians 4:1-23

Philippians 4:4-9 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to GOD. And the peace of GOD, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put into practice.  And the GOD of peace will be with you.”

What more can be said?  Wherever your mind is, there is your heart.  If you put your mind on noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy how can you go wrong?  Have you ever in a peaceful, blissful moment wanted to strike out or cause others pain? It is easy to understand that peace and love are more enjoyable, more of what we want then anger and hate and yet… we … at times… choose anger and hate.

There is a saying that if the simple path were that simple then everyone would take it.

Jesus simply says to Love Our Enemies.  By loving our enemies we are removing the burden of hate and anger and worry and fear from ourselves.  Loving our enemies is about ourselves, not our enemies. By loving our enemies we are freeing OURSELVES of worry and doubt… and fear!  It is that simple and in its simpleness it is that hard!

Philippians 4:11-13 “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret to being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

As we go through this day may we ask GOD to help us take the “simple path”… to just love.

If someone cuts us off today…                         
Let’s reply in love.
If someone strikes out at us in anger today…
Let’s reply in love.
If someone let’s us down today…
Let’s reply in love.
If someone ignores us today…
Let’s reply in love

If we do this today, then no matter how our day goes we will have spent our day in love!  AMEN!

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit, in the depths of our worry, fear, guilt, hate, and anger, help us to take the simple path to be open to love, love from ourselves, love from others, and love from GOD!  AMEN!
