It's My Choice

If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want.  They must be willing even give up their lives to follow me.  Mark 8:340

Waldek and I are blessed to live in a beautiful part of Colorado, a fairly affluent part of Colorado.  The messages I hear and see are often mixed.   There are beautiful homes with lots of toys, and there is a crowd of people saying” Follow us and fit in,” almost demanding, baiting, taunting with parties and glitter and popularity.  On the other side of my life is where Jesus is calling me: the less fortunate and the faithful who need my life of service. The other day I had to make a choice: I was supposed to be attending a book club with all the “beautiful” women in our neighborhood.  How flattering that they wanted me there!  Then I got a phone call from a friend who desperately needed to talk over a cup of coffee. I pondered the idea that I really didn’t have the time… I would get to her tomorrow.  Then I heard God’s voice: who will you choose?

I believe it’s possible to live a life of influence, without trying to be someone God does not want me to be.  I can choose to be above the fray and be kind and loving to all, but not give in to social pressure.  If I want to make a difference in this world, I have to live my life by example, so I sent my regrets to the book club and met my friend. God gives me choices every day:  One choice offers me “acceptance” and the other, the cross of forgiveness. One choice offers me “flash” and the other faith.  Today, I choose God.
