It's A Party!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In Matthew 22:1-14 Jesus tells the tale of a wedding feast. Jesus speaks of the spectacle of the party using grand details. Jesus flat out knew how to traverse a social situation.

In her look at the jubilant side of Jesus, theologian Elizabeth Barnes argues that at the wedding feast in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-12), “Jesus danced and cavorted and laughed, wine cup in hand, putting aside for a time the demands of his important ministry and the hard work he would resume on the morrow.” In her explication of the paradox of self sacrificial self expression, Barnes shows how Jesus lived life as she says, "vigorously, richly, commitedly, unreservedly, stumbling and rising, in other words, sacrificially. Only so does one travel the road modeled by Jesus the Christ.” (Elizabeth Barnes, The Story of Discipleship: Christ Humanity, and Church in Narrative Perspective pages 67-68).

May we follow the party path modeled by our Lord. Let us live life to the fullest with good measure of sacrifice and mercy.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J Jensen
