It Will Pass

Acts 27:13-14 “when a gentle south wind began to blow, they thought they had obtained what they wanted: so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the ‘northeaster’, swept down from the island.”

My study bible calls Acts 27:13-26 “The Storm” and Acts 27:27-44 "The Shipwreck."

That's how it is sometimes… isn’t it? Things are going along in life, “a gentle south wind.” We get relaxed, we start to think of how great life is, what we are looking forward to, what we will get done.

So, we pull up anchor and sail along the shore… The sails flapping gently in the breeze, the water lapping quietly on the hull, the shoreline a beautiful green and brown…

Acts 27:14-15 “Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the ‘northeaster’, swept down from the island. The ship was caught by the storm…”

That's how it is sometimes… isn’t it? We, you and I, get caught by the storm. We get a bad lab test result, we have a fight with our spouse, a friend, a child, a neighbor… we lose someone close, we hear a bad news report… we, you and I, get caught by the storm.

That's how it is sometimes… isn’t it? The gentle breeze turns into a “storm” and somehow because of the storm we end up in a “shipwreck!”

AND we can be in the storm a long time!

Acts 27:28 “They took soundings and found the water was 120 feet deep. A short time later they took soundings and found the water 90 feet deep.”

Everyone! We, you and I, will be “caught” by storms!

BUT STORMS PASS!

If you’re in a storm, know you are loved, it will pass.

If you’re in a gentle breeze, know you are loved, it will pass.

If you’re unsure, know you are loved, it will pass.

YOU ARE LOVED!

So…

What do we do if we’re in a gentle breeze?

What do we do if we see storm clouds?

What do we do if we are in a storm?

TAKE SOUNDINGS!

Talk to GOD (call out, yell, scream, but know GOD is out there listening)

Talk to a friend or neighbor

Go for a walk (things take a longer time to change if we aren’t moving)

Slow down (drop a sea anchor if you think things are moving too fast)

Pray

KNOW, deep in your bones, in every cell of your body, YOU ARE LOVED!

AMEN!
