Is Christmas Over?

You’re either really glad or a wee bit sad.

Christmas is over.

Well, the holiday we call Christmas is over.

You’ve put it all away and cleaned up the house. Or, like me, your home still looks like Christmas.

Is Christmas over?

We want to think like this anonymous quote:
So remember while December
Brings the Christmas day,
In the year, let there be Christmas
In the things you do and say.
Wouldn't life be worth the living,
Wouldn't dreams be coming true,
If we kept the Christmas spirit
All the whole year through?

I fear we have made the Christmas holiday something far different than the idea of hope and love coming into the world through the Christ child, that we tremble at the idea of keeping Christmas all the year through.  But truly, what we celebrate at Christmas is our God who became “flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood” (John 1:14 The Msg).  And that’s something we can appreciate every day.

The “real” Christmas story is messy and troublesome, sort of like how our lives can be.  Tomorrow the Christmas Biblical story continues and it’s not pretty, far from it.  But by hearing it repeated we can know that God shares our pain and be reminded that as God’s heart and our hearts are broken, we can join God in being light to the world.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 am as we gather to throw a party because of this God who joined God’s self to us in the story of Christmas.

Christmas blessings continue,
Vikki
