Invested

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today my Father Milton E. Jensen  turns 80 years old. Happy Birthday Dad!

In “The Shattered Lantern,” theologian Ronald Rolheiser observes: Imagine someone coming up to you and telling you: ”You know, I understand you. I’ve watched you grow up, I know your Myers Briggs results, I know your Enneagram number, and I am familiar with the dysfunctions of your family and your background. Besides that, you are Danish, and I know the temperament of the Danes! And you are perfectly your father’s son! Oh yes, I do understand you!”  Would you feel very understood?

Compare that to someone who comes up to you and says: “You know, I don’t understand  you at all! You are one rich mystery! I’ve known you for twenty years you still constantly surprise me!”

According to the prophet Jeremiah's call in Jeremiah 1, God knew Jeremiah from the  beginning of time. Ephesians Chapter 1 says that God has known each of us from before the “foundations of creation.” What does it mean for your relationship with God that your creator has invested so much in you ? When you are called upon by God to serve, should that investment inform your response?

Read Jeremiah Chapter 1, and Ephesians Chapter 1 for further reflection.

Prayers: All who mourn in Dallas and other regions effected by violent protests. The causes of racial unrest and our portion of contribution to racism. Pastor Milt and all who are having birthdays may they be reminded that all lives matter.

Still in one peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
