Invest and Develop

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Monday of this week, some of the staff went to hear former President of Costa Rica and 1987 Noble Laureate, Oscar Arias, speak at the PeaceJam conference in downtown Denver. It was a thrill to hear this world-class peacemaker teach the multitudes.

I jotted down a few of the remarks that President Arias made. He commented that 924 million people go to bed hungry each night. Each day 16,000 children die of hunger in the world. Arias proclaimed that ”Security lies in human development…..” For our world to gain a greater level of security each of us is called to invest in other people. Arias reminded us of Gandhi’s words, ”There are people in the world so hungry God can only appear to them in bread.”

We stand on the eve of Thanksgiving week. If you are down and out because you are sick, troubled financially, depressed or stressed, please make your need known. You are a precious product of God’s creation and worth being invested in and “developed.” If you are one who has plenty, may you share your finances, hospitality, heart, time, and giftedness with another who is in need. For if you have plenty, it is only when you share with another at deep and sacrificial level that you’ll receive great blessings.

“Lord (speaking to Jesus) when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger, or naked or sick or in prison….Truly I tell you as you did it to the least of these you did it to me..” (Matthew 25:39,40)

See you on Sunday.

Still in one peace,

David J. Jensen
