In this life

I read these words today and was stopped in my tracks: “God has good purposes and always remains with us. When tragedy befalls us, it is hard to understand how anything good can come from it, and we won’t always see it in this life.”

Does this mean this understanding is transcendent? Does this mean that when we get to Heaven, we will understand how our troubles and tragedies work together for good?

With all of the senseless shootings and bombings, I am having trouble understanding. Really, this will work together for good? --Really? The first words that many people like to quote when misfortune hits are: “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).

It is our Faith in the power of God and the mystery he has in store for us in Heaven that can get us through the difficult times—especially those times when we cannot understand.

Heavenly Father, help us to rely on you to calm our tragedies. Keep us wrapped in your arms, so we remember that all things work together for good – even if we need to join you in Heaven to finally be able to understand. Amen.
