In a Little While...

John 16:16-33

John 16:16 “In a little while you will see me no more and then after a little while you will see me.”

This was Jesus talking about his death…right? This was Jesus telling his disciples things were going down...right?

I like John 16:16 because of what the disciples say in John 16:18, “They kept asking what does he mean by ‘by a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.”

There are times when I have felt that I was in Jesus’s presence… I mean a truly pinch me moment. And there are times when I “saw Jesus no more.” It is the loneliest, most isolating experiences I have ever had. But “in a little while…”

Jesus “was” trying to prepare the disciples… his friends for what was going to happen. Jesus “is” preparing us, you and I for what will inevitably happen.

It is inevitable that you and I experience significant pain…

Loss of a loved one… Loss of health… Loss of a friend... Loss…

And it is inevitable that you and I experience joy.

Jesus didn’t end with “in a little while you will see me no more.”

Jesus ended with “and then in a little while you will see me!”

Jesus knows that in our times of pain, in our times of doubt, in our times of worry, in our times of fear, there are no “little whiles.” In those times it feels like forever, but Jesus tells us in John 16:33 “I have told you those things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

If you are experiencing pain, worry, doubt, fear… and you will.

KNOW! Deep in your heart you are a wonderful, loving, precious child of GOD! You are loved!

You are in pain now! …BUT IN A LITTLE WHILE…

John 16:33 “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!” Amen!
