If Not Now...When?

Happy New Year!!!! Wow!! Another year has come and gone. Did you make your “To Do List” for 2016? How is it going? We are into the 2nd week of the new year ~ are you still “thinking” about your New Year’s Resolutions or “wishing” you’d done more in 2015? Or are you actually doing something to accomplish these goals by year end? Perhaps a little of both?

This last weekend I was both blessed and privileged to attend a conference with some of my brothers and sisters in Christ. We heard Terry Hershey speak on the topic of “Find Your Sanctuary – Create Spaces of Rest, Renewal, & Refuge”. This “creating of space” sounds easy enough … but yet, we have all kinds of reasons why we can’t or don’t do this. During one of our discussion times, the phrase was shared, “If not now … when?” Being that I’m somewhat of a procrastinator, this resonated with me. It has been like one of those song lyrics that gets stuck in your head on repeat.

Sunday, Pastor Dave talked about how we are claimed, named, and aimed by God. This is something that most of us are (or have been) aware of as we have walked through our Faith journey. I love how God just shows up and shows off. Of course what Pastor spoke of made complete sense … but this time … I heard it just a little bit differently. God takes us as His own. God takes us just as we are. RIGHT NOW!! Not “later”. Not after we “do this” or “do that”. God loves us unconditionally RIGHT NOW!! In that moment in time I became ever so thankful that God does not procrastinate but rather embraces us right where we are. God loves us in the here and now every day, every step of the way. In Romans, we are reassured that nothing will ever separate us from the love of God:

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)

As you journey through the next year, may each step bring you closer to your goals. May you find a beautiful balance between being present in the moment and not putting off something that can be accomplished today instead of tomorrow.

Dear God, thank you for not procrastinating like we sometimes do. Thank you for loving us no matter where we are in any given moment on any given day. Please help us to remember that we are loved unconditionally and may we feel God’s loving embrace today and always. In your name we pray. Amen.
