Identity

Today is my birthday. I’ve always liked celebrating birthdays, mine and my family and friends. It’s a day to remember that we are uniquely created by a loving God to be a part of creation and in relationship with God and one another. Always celebrate birthdays!

I read a portion of Psalm 139 at my mom’s memorial service. It speaks to our identity in God, all of our days.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand on me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. How eighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! I try to count them – they are more than the sand; I come to the end—I am still with you.(verses 1-6; 13-18)

May we celebrate our identity as beloved children of God, not just on our birthdays, but every day! May this identity allow us to follow Jesus into transformed lives.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. (one service only!!!) as we welcome special guest and inspiring speaker, Shawn DeBerry Johnson. 100% of the offerings received tomorrow will be given away to our mission partners and to an org of Shawn’s choice. You won’t want to miss this!

Grace be with you,

Vikki
