How cool is that?

Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. - I John 3:18

I’m pretty excited about the Raising the Walls event tomorrow. First, it’s a great way to kick off the GGCC 10 Year Celebrations. Plus, it’s an opportunity for us to join with others to join Jesus in changing the world.

I’m not sure why it’s so difficult for churches to work together. But it is. I guess because we’re human and the human condition means we can be selfish and self-centered. Even though Jesus, Paul and Peter talked about unity in the Bible, the “church” over history hasn’t done so well with that. Some sources site more than 30,000 denominations in the US. I’m not sure that’s true but it does speak to the wide variety of different churches in our country. Churches are often more well known for competing with one another in their efforts to be “right” and the owners of “truth.”

So, I’m excited to be a part of a group of different churches coming together in Jesus’ name. Doing something together that reveals God's kingdom here and now. How cool is that?

I have no skills or talents for building houses. I don’t know what kind of nails to use or what kind of wood. It would be easy for me to say there’s no way I can be involved with making a house for someone. But someone with those kinds of skills has worked with others who have similar skills to develop a simple project that anyone can help with.

So, I’m excited to be part of a group of unskilled workers coming together in Jesus’ name - to actually build a house. How cool is that?

I don’t really have any idea about the need for homes in northern Mexico. I thought it was warm and tropical in Mexico so I didn’t realize that proper housing is an issue. Turns out that this area is a high plain at 4,000 feet; it snows and can get rather cold. I am not real informed about the realities of life for families there. But someone heard Jesus calling others to care about and for the people of this region.

So, I’m excited to be part of a group that cares about the people of the area enough to be generous with their financial resources and with their time to make this a priority. And many of these people don’t know each other. How cool is that?

God allows us to participate in the continual renewal of creation and to follow Jesus in caring about and for the “least of these.” Thanks be to God!

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 am (or whenever you can make it) at Platte River Academy in Highlands Ranch. Remember – no church at RCHS. We’ll work hard, we’ll make new friends, we’ll eat lunch and we’ll see Jesus in action among us. How cool is that?

Grace and peace,
