Hope Now

It’s hard to be compassionate and kind when it seems as if all the news around us is negative. What comes out instead is anger and judgment. It’s hard to listen to others who disagree with us. It’s difficult to express our opinions without sounding self-righteous.

We want to be right. We are right. Why won’t everyone see it our way? And, it’s easy to think that anyone who doesn’t think like we do is wrong.

Multiple opinions. Multiple points of view. Multiple ways to solve a problem. Coming to consensus takes work and time and vulnerability. We only have time for sound bites and emotional responses.

It’s overwhelming.

So my go-to Psalm lately has been 131. A way to get over myself and find my hope in God.

God, I’m not trying to rule the roost,
I don’t want to be king of the mountain.
I haven’t meddled where I have no business
or fantasized grandiose plans.

I’ve kept my feet on the ground,
I’ve cultivated a quiet heart.
Like a baby content in its mother’s arms,
my soul is a baby content.

Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope.
Hope now; hope always!

Psalm 131, Msg

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 a.m. as we come together as people of God, looking for Jesus’ Mercy to Change Me, We & the World.

Grace be with you,
