Hope is Here

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In Luke 24, on the walk of the Emmaus road, its hard to believe how the friends of Jesus have no idea of who he is. At mealtime,  in the “…breaking of the bread…”  it becomes clear to them that they had been walking with their once dead, now alive, pal Jesus! What happens in a meal that allows things once secret to become clear?

In “Wishful Thinking,“ Frederick Buechner says “ To eat any meal together is to meet at the level of our most basic need. It is hard to preserve your dignity with butter on your chin or keep your distance when asking for tomato ketchup.”

May each meal become sacred to you.  Jesus  comes and meets the most basic of needs. With arms outstretched Jesus knows not how to keep his distance. Jesus comes to all who had “..once hoped.. “ (Luke 24;21) and says do not give up! Hope is here!

Still in One Peace,

David J. Jensen
