Home for the Holidays

This year, I have a new appreciation for the phrase “Home for the Holidays”. This year, for the first, I was in a place I could not just pop home for the weekend. Longtime friends were now only available on a phone call, but fitting those in between my school schedule and their work or school schedules, even that is tricky. New friends are made, but even the bonds made in a few months are still not quite the ones cultivated over many years. While some friends will still be phone calls on Christmas, being home leads to contact with friendly faces.

Earlier this year I wrote a devotion discussing God wanting us to go out and be pilgrims and foreigners in the world. However, Christmas is the time that Joseph went to his home, albeit for taxation reasons. But “God wastes nothing” and He used the journey home to bring Joseph into a place of comfort as a place of respite before venturing out into the world to be pilgrims and foreigners once again. Enjoy your "home for the holidays" wherever it may be, and have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
