His Words

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“My kingdom,“ said Jesus, “doesn’t consist of what you see around you. If it did, my followers would fight so I would not be handed over to the Jews. But I am not that kind of king, not the world's kind of king." (John 18:36, The Message translation)  Jesus spoke those words of truth to the world's political powers as they made plans to crucify him.

The words Jesus spoke to earthly governmental authority in the gospel were shared 2000 years ago. What truth do his words hold today, August 8, 2018?

In the United States, when a president is inaugurated, the new president puts his hand on a Bible. But then the president solemnly swears to preserve, protect, and defend, not the Bible, but the Constitution of the United States. Christians are ultimately answerable to a higher authority, a more sure source of guidance and ultimate truthfulness than even the constitution.

Prayers: For leadership and faithful following, for healing, the poor, the hungry, and those returning to school.

Today may you take some time as the rock group the Eagles remind us to, “Learn To Be Still” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XwYoSuDDA , as you dwell in the authority of the creator of the universe.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
