Heavy Drinking

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There is a T-shirt from Kerusso, a Christian apparel manufacturer in Berryville, Arkansas that reads….
on the front “ Heavy Drinker”
              and
on the back it reads, “If any man (person) thirst, let them come unto me(God) and drink.”

In Isaiah 55, the people are infatuated with the power of the Babylonians, as well as their economic clout. God sends a directive that His way is different from the way of the world they see around them. “Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters ; and you who have no money, come buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:1,8)

Are you wanting to be a” heavy drinker for Jesus”? How many of your thoughts drift toward your earthly power and your earthly possessions in a given day?

May our prayer be that Jesus take away our pursuit of earthly thirsts. Let us pray that we might be satisfied with one heavenly drink.

Jesus invites you into the life giving paradigm of discipleship which defies the ways of the world.

     1) Jesus stands before you saying “I believe in you.” (The world says if you do just a bit more you will be acceptable.)
     2) Jesus calls upon you to be passionate for his eternally satisfying truth and teaching. (The world tempts you to put your passion into gathering what is temporary and is never enough.)
     3) Jesus says spend some time with me , I will give your life purpose and meaning. (The world soaks up our time leaving us wondering “What is the purpose of it all? Why does my life lack meaning?”)

Let’s all do some heavy drinking, at the well of the Lord!
