Heart Full

Tomorrow is All Saints Sunday, a day to remember the saints in our family of God.

My grandparents who taught me about God’s unconditional love.  My aunt who taught me to love beauty and find joy in every situation.  My great-grandfather who taught me patience and perseverance.  My friend who taught me courage through Christ.

These saints may appear to be gone, but yet reside in my heart and in the Kingdom that encircles us.

The closing scene of the 1984 movie, “Places in the Heart” gives us a glimpse of what it’s like to be “surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith” (Hebrews 12:1a NLT).  At the beginning of the scene, there are many empty seats in the pews, but by the end when they are sharing in Holy Communion, the church is filled with those who are gone – either by death or have moved away.  This is a wonderful image of how our hearts are filled daily by the saints.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 as we celebrate and remember our saints.  Bring photos of your saints so that we can re-create this scene in our own worship!

God bless you,
