Have A Blessed Day

Is this mid-summer’s heat getting to you? It’s getting to me. I have had many casual conversations, such as, “It is super hot; well, maybe not quite as hot as the 100-degree days from last summer, but still rather hot.” Or, comments such as, “How soon are we going to get a break from this heat?” This is a common Colorado summer, but, yet, every year I reflect on how hot it is in our area.

I wonder if I can retrain my mind to reduce the use of complaints about the heat. If I do, will I notice it less and be a little more cheerful as I go about my days. I read a devotional of this sort, just this week: https://www1.cbn.com/devotions/too-hot-to-handle

Within this devotional, this particular comment stood out to me:

Negative attitudes and complaints are contagious but encouragement is even more so.

There was a commercial recently also quoting a famous saying from Maya Angelou:

I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Rather than complaining about the heat, I want to practice encouragement and even stretch to ensure that the things I both do and say will ensure that the person I’m standing with will receive a good feeling. Recently, I was ending a call with our insurance firm (a difficult call to say the least and I was transferred between departments at least 4-5 times), and the woman who had finally helped me after all these difficulties said, “Have a blessed day.” Just that one comment helped me to feel better about the struggles and stuck with me the rest of my day.
