Happy Birthday

Today is a very special day in our household because it marks my husband, Jason’s 33rd birthday. Our relationship has had its fair share of ups and downs this year, therefore this day is particularly special to me this year. This man is someone whom consistently puts the needs of others before his own. In his line of work as a fireman, that can often mean he risks his own life to save another. Futhermore, this selflessness does not end when the 48 hour shift comes to an end either. Every week when he leaves, he knows that for the next two full days he will operate largely on little sleep and is expected to carry out the job at full capacity regardless of whether he has had two or eight hours of sleep the night prior. When he comes home, he greets me with a smile and a kiss, while our two and ½ year old runs up to him screaming DADDY! DADDY! Yearning for his love and affection too. Without the bat of an eyelash he gives her what she is so desperate to receive. He could just run straight to bed and say he needs to rest and I would be fully okay to help him with that. In fact I often suggest that he comes home and rest for the first day he is home. But without fail he offers his helping hand at whatever work needs to be done around the house or if the dog needs to be taken out, etc., etc.. I often ponder how could I do this without you?

I think back to the difficult times that were had earlier this year and I thank God that he put us through that struggle. He opened our eyes to the flaws that were in our relationship and that both Jason and I needed to be willing to accept our wrongdoings and change. He reminded me that hard times are often blessings in this life and that through those hard times we are strengthened and we grow. That is why today is so special to me.

Not only is today my husband's birthday, but it is the day that God reminds me of one basic thing I can be so grateful for and that is Love. God loved me so much that he granted me this precious gift that I get to share my life with. He created this wonderful, passionate, selfless man and out of all the people in the entire world, I was blessed that God pointed him in my direction.

Happy birthday Jason. I love you more and more each day.
