Guiding Light

Psalm 43:3 “Send for your light and your truth, let them guide me, let them bring me to your holy mountain. To the place where you dwell.”

Mumford & Sons in their song “Guiding Light” say, “Cause even when there is no star in sight, you’ll always be my guiding light.”

I find myself, when things are going well, or even if my life becomes a bit routine drifting away from GOD… and if not drifting away from GOD then maybe seeing the guiding light less dimly.

Psalm 43:5 “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in GOD…”

In John 4, Jesus talks with a Samaritan Woman at a well. His disciples have gone into town (Sychar) to get supplies, take care of business… You know, doing the routine things between miracles. And then in verse 27 of John 4 “they return and were surprised to find Jesus…?”

When we get caught up in the routine.

When we get downcast.

When we get disturbed within.

When we get caught up in politics.

When we drift along…

Know! Yes, KNOW!

GOD is there surrounding you, inside of you, holding you… Return! And be surprised!

As Mumford & Sons says, “Don’t just sit with folded hands and become blind, ‘cause even when there is no start in sight you’ll always be my guiding light.”

The author of Psalm 43, around 3,000 years ago, knew you could get caught up in worldly things, they knew you get downcast and disturbed within and yet… they knew to turn to GOD for a guiding light.

About 2,000 years ago, the disciples returned and were surprised by Jesus. If we’re not surprised by Jesus, by GOD then maybe we’re not following the right light. If we have fit Jesus into our normal routine, then maybe it’s just our interpretation of Jesus. Maybe we need to return and be surprised. Maybe we’re caught up in a routine that has us missing the miracles, maybe we’re just sitting with folded hands and becoming blind!

You are a wonderful, loving, precious child of GOD! Know you are loved!

Open your eyes to GOD and be surprised.

Precious Father, Loving God, Holy Spirit I pray. I pray for you to be my guiding light, to let me see where I am drifting from your path and to return and be surprised! AMEN!
