Gratitude

I Give Thanks For You!

“Lord make us instruments of your peace.

Where the is hatred let us sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is discord, union;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy;.

Grant that we may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to beloved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and

It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”

(A PRAYER ATTRIBUTED TO ST FRANCIS)

St. Francis passed on many prayers of praise to us. He went through his life finding new things for which to praise God at every turn: the little things, nature, the creatures, suffering, his brothers and sisters- for whatever was happening, he praises God.

Francis is never trying to earn God’s love; he is celebrating it! He  continually enjoys God’s live in everything he sees and experiences. Mature prayer always breaks into gratitude and praise.

Prayer is sitting in the silence until it silences us, choosing gratitude until we are grateful, praising God until we ourselves are a constant act of praise.

Prayer: That we might each offer gratitude to God at all times and in all places. The opportunity to practice ALL SAINTS DAY this Sunday and offer gratitude for those who planted the trees of faith who’s shade we rest in and dug the wells that quench our spiritual thrust.  May all the trick or treaters be kept safe tomorrow night.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
