Gratitude Is Shown in Acts

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

In John 12:1-8 we have the story of Mary coming in and anointing Jesus’ feet with an expensive oil. It’s a story of gratitude. Mary so thankful for Jesus’ love and mercy and a foreshadowing of his upcoming death on the cross.

This time of year we talk about being thankful and the gifts of gratitude in our lives. It’s recommended that we establish a practice of writing or remembering the things we are grateful for each day. And I agree – this is a beneficial practice.

But I wonder if there’s more? It’s one thing to keep a gratitude list and think of all the people, things and places we have to be grateful for. It’s another thing to live gratefully and show our gratitude to those around us. To be compassionate and giving and put others first precisely because we are grateful.

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.”  ~ Henri Frederic Amiel

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow as we gather to worship and thank God at 10:00. AND, we hope you will join us after worship for some pizza and discussion about Thankfulness. It won’t be the same without you.

Grace be with you,

Vikki
