Gratitude as a Journey

Happy Thanksgiving!

The month of November combines Thanksgiving Day with a day our country honors its veterans. This month, I was blessed to be able to attend a wonderful Veteran’s Day celebration in Texas this month. I am grateful for those who have served and continue to serve our country, to keep us safe.  Kory Brunson’s words ring true, “As I stand in awe of you, I’m amazed at what you do... all the choices that you make, for me and my family’s sake. We thank God for you! ”

Over the past several weeks, I have a friend and colleague who spent every day this month (all of November) posting daily notes of gratitude and thanks on Facebook. Each day I look for her new post to see for what or for whom she is grateful. My friend’s daily posts are perfect examples of an image that Vikki recently posted stating, “May you wake with gratitude.”

Thanksgiving Day is a day when our family reflects on the blessings of another year – sharing that for which we are thankful.  This has been a bountiful year, full of so much for which I am truly grateful. However, gratitude and thankfulness is a journey – something that should not be limited to one day, one week, or one moment, but experiences that shape our lives.  Take time, not just this Thanksgiving Day, but each and every day, to reflect on those things for which you are grateful – and enjoy the journey!

For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, For love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
