I give thanks for my grandparents.  I was the oldest child, born to oldest children when they were youngsters, so I had the joy of having grandparents for a long time.  I got to enjoy a grandma and a grandpa into my 50’s.

My last grandma who died earlier this year at almost 95 years, was so full of grace and love that she just oozed “Jesus follower” in her being.  She truly lived out this verse with her family that included 21 grand and great-grandchildren.

But take care and watch yourselves closely, so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life; make known to your children and your children’s children.  Deuteronomy 4:9

My life was transformed because of this gift of a grandma.  I knew and experienced unconditional love.  I knew that her heart belonged to Jesus.  I saw her put into action with her family, in her work, with her friends and in her community what it means to follow Jesus.

May we give thanks for those who mentored and modeled the life of faith for us.  And, may we seek out people who can do that for us now.  And, may we fill that role for others.

Looking forward to celebrating Grandparent’s Day in worship tomorrow at 9 & 10:30 am with you!
