Got Found

Dear Fellow Found,

Have you ever noticed there are many ways to describe a person’s relationship with Christ? Humans might say things like, ”since I found Christ,” or “when I gave my life to Christ,” or “after I took Jesus into my heart.” Talk of this sort implies that our relationship with Christ is something that we do, something that we decide.

John 21:1-19 reminds us that we do not seek Jesus. Jesus finds us. We don’t take Jesus into our hearts or anywhere. Jesus takes us places!

The disciples were not  looking for some deeper religious meaning in their lives. They were looking for fish! In Acts 9, Saul was not looking for some inspiration in his life, he was looking for Christians to persecute!

The risen Christ is the seeking Christ. Jesus searches, seeks, and saves those who are not wise enough to know where or even how to search for him. Which I suppose is all of us.

Years ago I remember a large denomination that had some sort of evangelism campaign sponsored by the denomination. They put the theme of the campaign on bumper stickers that read I FOUND IT!  To be truly faithful to the movements of the Easter Christ, those bumper stickers should have said, I GOT FOUND!

Prayers: For the Open Door event at the new Boondocks in Parker this Saturday May 6, 10-2pm, for leadership and followership, for Dan Evans as he recovers from back surgery, for our missional partnership with Hopewell Baptist in Mississippi.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
