Good Ol' St. Pat

Growing up my mom and dad both loved to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Since I grew up in two different households the traditions were celebrated in different ways, both carrying with them special memories . My mom always found joy filling our shoes with candy and sending us on scavenger hunts to find the pot of Gold the Leprechaun may have left behind. My dad’s home was filled with the scent of the Corned beef and cabbage braising all day long and the sound of family chatter in the evening while we all gathered around the table to eat this traditional Irish meal. Although, I never was a huge fan of corned beef and cabbage, a fact that most of my family members like to chuckle at, I still enjoyed all the time my father put into the meal preparation and the event every year. St. Patty’s day was like an additional Thanksgiving of sorts and when I introduced my now husband to the family many years ago and he attended our St. Patty’s day party he was one to understand why this day is important to us. So in honor of this special holiday I leave you with an Irish Blessing, something that has been hung up in both my mother and fathers homes and still does today.

“May the Road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. “

Have a happy and safe St. Patrick’s Day. God Bless
