God Loves You...

A friend answered an email and ended it with “how are you doing? Remember God loves you.” It made me smile because even though I have been sad a fair amount lately- I know it to be true.

So that was the thought I had about this devotion. God does love me- I know that.

The other thought I had was when I was driving, and on the radio are Simon and Garfunkel singing Bridge Over Troubled Water , a timeless classic that always makes me teary,

After the email from my friend, and this song, I decided to research where the thought for the song came from. It actually sparked for Paul Simon from a line in a gospel song by a group known as the Swan Silvertones. ( This is a great story- very much abbreviated.)

‘I’ll be your bridge over deep water/If you trust in my name.’

I knew there had to be a story behind the song. With that in mind, here are the lyrics of the song, the words are powerful when you interject that God is in everything including this song- HE will erase your tears, HE will be on your side, HE will be with you when no one else is. HE is the bridge over troubled waters, each and every time.

"Bridge Over Troubled Water"

When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh when times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
Oh when darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on, silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
