God Is Not Always at Eye Level

A couple of weeks ago while out shopping, I got to experience (as most of you probably have as well) a huge change in the way that some retail stores now flow – “One Way Directional Aisles.”

This concept sounds simple enough right? I found it interesting how it changed not only how I shopped, but how others did as well. Some seemed to go along with the new way and followed the floor markings while others either did not realize the changes or just simply did not care. Whatever the reason, it got me thinking.

When you are out in the world, where do your eyes go? Do they look down, so you do not stumble, trip, or fall? Do you look up towards the hills and the sky? Do you look at eye level? Or some combination of the three?

As I shopped, I stopped to smile for there in the midst of change (which is both exciting and hard for some of us), was God. God was telling me to keep moving forward, however, not so fast. God reminded me to slow down, look around and take it all in. If I was not looking or scanning multiple places, or if I went too fast, I would miss something. In this case, backtracking was not all that bad or hard, just a few extra steps added to the day as I looped back down another aisle to get to where I wanted to be. Looking back and remembering something can be a good thing. It is important to remember not to get stuck there. It is also important to remember that sometimes in life we cannot go back for what we missed. A moment is just that, a moment.

Missing things is going to happen as we are human. However, God has our back and will remind us to slow down, look around and take it all in. God wishes for us to see His blessings and His beauty for it is ALL around us, not just or always where WE think we should look. He is strategic and has a plan for each one of us.

Where do you look or turn to when you need a reminder of God and His Love? Where do you find strength? Two of my favorites are Psalm 121 and Matthew 6:25-34. These remind me that God’s got this – HE has ME! I am also blessed to be a part of a women’s bible study full of amazing and strong women. A few weeks ago, we were discussing Psalm 23 and other scriptures that we turn to … Maybe one of them will speak to you … Do you have one that is not listed or a favorite poem or author?

Psalm 23 ~ Hebrews 11:1 ~ John 1 ~ Psalm 121 ~ Matthew 6:33 ~ Matthew 18:28-30 ~ Matthew 16:24-26 ~ Colossians 3:2 ~ Romans 12:1-2 ~ Revelations 2:10

I encourage you to look ALL around. Look up, down, forward, and backwards. Look at scripture, other readings, your family, friends, support systems. May you see the beauty in ALL things as God allows HIS light to shine through you and to you!

Dear God, Thank you for direction even if it was not what we planned or expected. Thank you for reminding us to slow down and soak in the beauty that is all around us. May we continue to remember to look to you, wherever and however that may be; that sometimes you come to us where we are, for you are the Light that shines bright amid the darkness. Thank you for holding us all in your loving and unconditional care; “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” We are all children of God, called by name. In your name we pray. Amen.
