God Bless America

Happy Fourth of July!

There are times that I have complained about this or that in life. The frustration of not getting a live person on the “help” line, the interruption of commercials, when the car acts up, etc. As my daughter would say “first world problems”. How true. I am guilty of taking for granted this wonderful country that I was blessed to be born in.

There are many places in the world where just trying to stay alive and provide for your family is a daily challenge. By the luck of the draw, I was born an American and have access to the many privileges it offers. I am so grateful to the forefathers of this country who chose to break away from the traditional monarchy system and based the “New World” on the principles of democracy, liberty and justice for all. No, America is not perfect, but it does offer its people many freedoms and thereby many choices.

I am deeply grateful and indebted to all of those soldiers who fought, and are fighting, to protect my freedom. May we all be grateful this holiday that we have the opportunity to gather together and celebrate our love of God because we have freedom of religion and are able to express ourselves through the freedom of speech.

I read this on the internet and it expresses this day very eloquently:

“Every waving flag, hand-covered heart, and deeply felt prayer asking God to bless America is a declaration of thanks to all those who have served. You’ve shown by example what it truly means to belong to the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.” Philippians 1:3
